How it works.

“The aim of life is self-development. To realize one’s nature perfectly-that is what each of us is here for”

-Oscar Wilde

This first meeting is more than just a “getting to know you appointment”. It’s also about assessing whether I am indeed the right therapist to assist. I’ll be interviewing you, and you’ll be interviewing me. I am well aware this can be an extremely intimidating phase in the process; there may be some matters you or your family are just not wanting to get into until a rapport has been established. No worries!

There is no pressure to have it all together. Remember, therapy is a choice. There are no right or wrong answers. You always have the choice to say yay or nay on topics that I bring up for discussion. This is not to say there aren’t limitations. If you refuse to answer most of my questions, or fill out the intake paperwork, I’m probably not going to be able to be of much help to you.

The same goes for honesty. It goes without saying that often one person’s truth can differ greatly from that of a family member or significant other. It would be a serious waste of your time to lie. Regardless, it is the emotions behind the story that are never wrong.

At the end of the day, therapy is a choice. If you’re not into it, it ain’t gonna work.

This whole deal is very much a collaborative effort designed not only to address presenting problems, but to work on core emotional issues that are keeping you stuck in damaging repetitive behavioral and relational patterns.
